Meet Ben Farmer, our New Economic Development Planner
Ben Farmer joined the UCPCOG Planning & Development Services Department on November 1, 2019. Ben will apply his skills and energy to broad-based economic development for the region, taking the lead on economic development grant administration and CEDS development, revision, implementation, and annual reporting. His focus areas include rural broadband, infrastructure, local food, main street revitalization, comprehensive planning, facilitation, grant work and more. He holds a Master of Public Administration, Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from Western Carolina University. Most recently, Ben was the Project Manager for the Isothermal Planning & Development Commission, the regional council of governments for a 4-county region in Western North Carolina, where he organized and carried out various local government technical assistance projects with a focus on community and economic development. Ben is looking forward to learning more about the Upper Coastal Plain Region, its unique communities, and the economic development goals of the regions’ local governments.
