As a part of Down East Senior Games, Adaptive Events came to life several years ago when it became evident that many older adults with disabilities and those living in Long Term Care could not participate in the regular games. Adaptive events is an adaptation of Senior Games designed for older adults with significant medical conditions and physical disabilities. For example, a participant who might not be able to run in a basketball game can instead compete in a basketball hoop challenge. Individuals in wheel chairs are able to try and shoot as many goals as possible. There are many more events and a host of volunteers who coordinate and lead the games. The events are free to all participants and participants receive lunch, medals, and goodie bags; much of which is provided by local sponsors.
